GTA 5 Successfully Ported to Nintendo Switch by Modders

Published: 03/05/2024

A monumental breakthrough has been achieved as modders triumphantly brought GTA 5 to the Nintendo Switch, a platform where the game had never before graced officially. Demonstrated by the fervent team of enthusiasts under the banner of Superstar South, Grand Theft Auto 5 made its mark on the console, albeit not without encountering some performance hurdles such as noticeable slowdowns. Nevertheless, this milestone stands as a testament to perseverance, considering previous attempts at amateur ports often stumbled upon a myriad of loading errors and technical glitches.

Since December 2023, the modding community has been tirelessly dedicated to this endeavor, spurred by the leak of the game's source code online, in their mission to usher GTA 5 into this new frontier of gaming. However, the fate of this fan-driven initiative remains uncertain. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has adamantly demanded the cessation of user modification development in the past. Furthermore, the Switch port was meticulously crafted using code obtained through questionable means, posing legal risks. Yet, with Superstar South opting to refrain from public distribution of the new version, it appears unlikely that legal repercussions will befall these passionate individuals.

In a separate venture, YouTube content creator Serg Pavlov boldly attempted to run Red Dead Redemption 2 on the gaming smartphone Nubia Red Magic 9 Pro. However, the grand cowboy epic faltered, plagued by an array of visual glitches and a lamentably sluggish frame rate. Despite these setbacks, the indomitable spirit of the gaming community persists, driving ever onward in their pursuit of pushing the boundaries of gaming innovation and exploration.
