Take-Two Confident: No Delay for GTA VI
Rockstar Games' major releases often come with delays. However, according to the head of Take-Two, this won't be the case with Grand Theft Auto VI: the company is confident that the game will be released on schedule — in the fall of 2025.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, expressed this confidence in an interview with CNBC. During the conversation, the following dialogue took place:
"— How confident are you that GTA VI will be released in the fall of 2025? Initially, you only mentioned the year, so the release could potentially happen in February. How confident are you?
— Well, the gaming industry is prone to forced delays, and we are not immune to them. But we have narrowed down the release window because we are quite confident in these dates."
The hosts also asked Zelnick what new features GTA VI would offer consumers. In response, the president of Take-Two suggested rewatching the first trailer, which "broke the Internet" — according to him, the trailer already contains many hints about the upcoming game.
Previous major releases from Rockstar Games have been postponed multiple times:
Red Dead Redemption 2. Initially planned for the second half of 2017, then for early 2018, and finally released on October 26, 2018.
Grand Theft Auto V. Initially scheduled for the second quarter of 2013, released on September 17, 2013.
Max Payne 3. Initially set for late 2009, then postponed to 2010, then to 2011, then to March 2012, and finally released on May 15, 2012 (with the PC release delayed by another two weeks).
Red Dead Redemption. Initially planned for late 2009, then postponed to April 2010, and released on May 18, 2010.
Grand Theft Auto IV. Initially scheduled for October 16, 2007, released on April 29, 2008.
However, recently Rockstar Games has been more punctual: both GTA: The Trilogy and the Red Dead Redemption remaster launched without delays. Though, by Rockstar's standards, these projects are not considered major releases.
Thus, Take-Two's confidence in the timely release of GTA VI in the fall of 2025 brings optimism to fans, despite the history of delays with previous games.
